Jake is an experienced teacher and mentor, working with writers and creatives across all stages of their careers. He delivers workshops, guest lectures, talks, industry Q&As, provides one-to-one mentoring and writing tuition, and speaks and judges at competitions and conferences as well as sitting on numerous industry panel events across the UK.
He also works with media organisations, educational institutions and individuals in an advisory capacity, offering practical insight and industry expertise.
Jake mentors writers of all ages and experience levels — from those taking their very first steps in writing through to established, award-winning writers, including Oscar nominees.
AN INTRODUCTION TO WRITING FOR MUSICAL THEATRE
This fun and accessible workshop gives students a first-hand insight into the process of creating new musicals. Through practical exercises and discussion, students explore the craft of writing book, music and lyrics for musical theatre, while developing their own creative ideas in a supportive workshop environment. Alongside the creative process, we also examine key questions such as:
• Who writes musicals?
• Why are books and films adapted so frequently for the stage?
• Who are musicals written for?
• How do writers collaborate to create a new show?
The workshop can be delivered either as:
• a one-off intensive session lasting 3-4 hours
• a series of 2-hour classes across two to six sessions, depending on budget and availability.
